DC's Zuda Artist Tom Kelly Illustrates Indie Comics Magazine #2 Cover

Indie Comics Magazine Editor Gary Scott Beatty recently announced an illustration by nationally known cartoonist Tom Kelly will appear on the cover of the second issue of the new comic book, scheduled for preorder in Diamond Comic Distributors' February 2011 Previews catalog and available ONY through Previews.

Kelly's children's web comic "The Stuffed Animal Sagas" was featured on DC comics' website ZUDA.com. His illustrations have appeared in Black Petals magazine, Star Wars Insider, Imagine Fx, Design Graphics, Tales of the Talisman, Thrasher, Wired and Time Out Chicago magazine.

"Indie Comics Magazine is doing in print what DC attempted online: giving greater exposure to talented indy creators," said Beatty. "And Tom's work is just phenomenal."

Kelly, a Chicago based artist, has also designed posters and promotional art for Chicago bands Daemon Familiar, Unibrow and Moses Gun. He has produced graphic design and illustration for numerous design, production and toy companies, such as Spin Master Toys, Rittenhouse Archives, Topps, Hasbro, EA Sports, Wizards of the Coast and Mattel.

"Tom's graveyard babe on our cover is an impressive combination of attraction and wary repulsion," Beatty gushed. "We love his balance and texturing." Kelly has won several awards, including the Wayne Wright Key for Excellence and the Pennsylvania Keystone Silver Seal.

Terry Cronin Presents Zombies of Rock in the New Indie Comics Magazine #2

"Throughout the years in Students of the Unusual, Terry has proven himself to be a versatile short story writer, a skill sadly lacking in many of today's comic books," said Beatty. Film producer and director, dermatologist and film festival program director Terry Cronin fills his Students of the Unusual comic series with horror tales based on the myths, legends and history of his home state of Florida. "Terry knows how to misdirect readers so plot twists are real surprises," said Beatty. "That technique works well in straight up horror, fantasy or comedy."

Art in the Indie Comic Magazine tale is supplied by Steve Mack. His retro cartoon style is well suited to a story about a super group of dead rockers.

Terry joined forces with Pat Martin, Jeff Hall and Bob Lizek to create 3 Boys Productions, responsible for the annual Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival. The team is now producing Adventure Chefs, a reality show where contestants hunt, forage and gather food to prepare fine dining for judges. Hamtramck Idea Men in the New Indie Comics Magazine #2

Indie Comics Magazine Editor Gary Scott Beatty recently announced Michael Marcus and George McVey will contribute a done-in-one space adventure to Indie Comics Magazine #2. The book is available ONLY through pre-order at your local comic book shop through February's Diamond Comic Distributors' Previews catalog.

Marcus and McVey are the Hamtramck Idea Men, a creative arts partnership whose projects range from the comic books Pulp Dreams and IF-X to game designing to the fine arts. Both organized the Southern Michigan Arts and Creativity Conference, a gathering of artists, writers, fashion designers, crafters, and musicians in the Detroit, Michigan area.

Marcus, as editor for IF-X, is known for putting creators in touch with each other and offering his diverse talents to make projects happen.

McVey's Pulp Dreams stories “Terra 2920” and “Portal Prime” are currently in negotiations over film and television rights. He takes commissions for custom silk-screening work and several upcoming books feature his illustrations.

Activist Alonzo Washington's Characters to Appear in New Indie Comics Magazine #2

Omega-7 Publisher and Activist Alonzo Washington will contribute to Indie Comics Magazine #2, announced Editor Gary Scott Beatty. The book is available ONLY through pre-order at your local comic book shop through February's Diamond Comic Distributors' Previews catalog.

Washington, through Omega-7 Publishing, offers comic books to make a difference in the real world, change negative imagery of black men in the media, challenge the press to cover abducted African American children, and address health issues.

With Omega Man and the Galactic Zone of African-American Super Heroes, Washington addresses social issues in full color comics. The Indie Comics Magazine story features art by Johnny Johnson.

Washington has been known to paint over gang graffiti, march on drug houses, challenge corrupt policemen and aid hate crime victims. Spy Guy Creator Mike Kitchen to Appear in the New Indie Comics Magazine

Indie Comics Magazine Editor Gary Scott Beatty recently announced Canadian Mike Kitchen will appear in Indie Comics Magazine #2, available only through pre-order at your local comic book shop through February's Diamond Comic Distributors' Previews catalog.

Mike Kitchen is the creator of Spy Guy, a hard-boiled funny book telling the story of an undercover Toronto city cop. Published through Ultraist Studios, the initial series of Spy Guy one-shot comics consisted of Spy Guy: Bootleg, Spy Guy: Minis and Spud & Harry #1. In the summer of 2009, Mike released Spy Guy #1 (of the Unlimited Series) which also launched as a part of Indy Comic Book Week 2009.

In mainstream media, Spy Guy appeared in Superhero Movie's convention battle sequence and Mike was featured in an interview on TV's Electric Playground.
