Indie Comics #1: The Adventure Begins in FULL COLOR!

Now full color, Indie Comics is being offered through Caliber Entertainment on Comixology, through an agreement with Aazurn Publishing. Indie Comics #1 was released Wednesday at https://www.comixology.com/Indie-Comics/comics-series/84916

“We're really excited to offer all 53 Indie Comics pages in full color. Many of the artists colored the stories here originally and we converted to black ink for the Diamond run,” said Aazurn Publishing’s Gary Scott Beatty.

“I’m so proud Publisher Gary Reed saw the value in our Indie Comics pub before his passing. It means a lot to me. His approval is one of the biggest compliments I’ve ever received.”

The adventure begins when Rick Bonn asks “Why Did the Caveman Cross the Sea?” Bonn (Bonnfire Media) and artist Christopher Herndon follow a Bigfoot/Tarzan hybrid in a world of dinosaurs.

Brad Olrich’s mercenaries attempt a raid on Rectory VII, “At Galaxy’s Core.” Olrich’s (Commodore Dinosaur) thieves go to work retrieving a donation from The Church of Eternal Recurrence in this Dark Ages inspired sci fi.

Terry Cronin plunges three college students on spring break into an underground world of bloodsucking women. In “The Flame of Faith,” Cronin (Students of the Unusual) and artist Ghostfire tell a new kind of vampire story with a mysterious tattoo, freak tumors and spring break in Florida!

Hans Christian Andersen meets H.P. Lovecraft when Gary Scott Beatty follows “The Maketch Girl” and elder gods into darkness. Beatty’s (Number One) "The Little Match Girl” pastiche turns the child toward sunless, ancient worlds of eldritch horrors.

Michael R. Carr presents two aging adversaries converging for a final encounter in “Silence.” Carr (A Dark Allie) and artist Brian Atkins explore honor and eternal rest in eight pages of swordplay!

Finally, diesel punk meets modern world in Paul Bradford’s “The Night Errant!” Bradford (Astral Crusaders) and artist Randy Valiente bring us a character that has had enough of the corruption and crime throughout his city.

“I first read Caliber books in the late '80s, meeting Vince Locke and Guy Davis before their move to Vertigo and other industry greats like Mark Bloodworth, Tim Vigil, and James O'Barr before their fame,” said Beatty. “We’re in very good company here at Caliber. And as much as we like black ink, this colored art in Indie Comics #1 really pops off the page!”

Indie Comics #1 features mature themes and 53 pages of stunning full color art for only $2.99. See the book at Comixology at https://www.comixology.com/Indie-Comics/comics-series/84916

Caveman Adventure, Eldritch Horror, Mob War and Gripping Sci Fi -- it's Indie Comics #3!

Stomping into October's Previews on the heals of Indie Comics #1 and #2 is the third issue of the indie adventure anthology from Aazurn Publishing: Indie Comics!

Seven stories from four different creative teams bring action adventure and horror to readers. Short biographies and contact information are included with the stories so readers can easily seek out more of the creators' work.

Street magic takes on zombies in the Gary Scott Beatty tale “To Hell,” when a cigarette smoking Brit uses spells to figure out the reason behind an apocalypse. He learns more than he's prepared for.
A mob boss deals with an "internal problem" when territory is up for grabs in the Paul Bradford story "Hostile Takeover!" It's not business as usual.

Pulp magazine covers are the inspiration for the Gary Scott Beatty future fiction “Captain.” The mission is to find and inhabit Heofon, but they have to get there first.

Rick Bonn and fan favorite artist Christopher Herndon wrap up their caveman adventure in "Perchance to Dream? Terry Cronin concludes his spring break weird tale in an extra long "Flame of Faith" chapter, with art from Julia Lichty.

Plus, a treasure hunting soldier runs into more than he bargained for in “Horde,” and a Puritan faces the rope in “Accused!” This issue features seven stories, packed with adventure!

Indie Comics #1 can still be backordered from your local or online comic shop with order code JUN160995 and Indie Comics #2 with order code AUG161046. Indie Comics #3 is offered in October’s Previews catalog, under Aazurn Publishing!

Caliber Publishes the First Gary Scott Beatty Retrospective

I don’t write and draw books for children. I think that is what moved Gary Reed, owner of Caliber Comics, to approach me to publish the first retrospective of my early work.

“Worlds: Three Stories by Gary Scott Beatty” is available today on Comixology, and a print book is on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Three-Stories-Scott-Beatty/dp/1942351658

Unpublished art, in depth articles about the stories and a Jazz gallery are also included in this attractive 96 page, full color package.

In 2008 I was trying to sell the three comics included in this collection to readers at a comic convention who were mainly interested in spandex-clad hero adventures. I could tell Gary was amused by my efforts to explain the books’ themes to people interested in things blowin’ up real good.

Gary was no stranger to selling literate comics. His Caliber Comics was one of the most memorable publishers of what’s called the “black and white explosion,” that independent publishing boom in the late ‘80s.

Caliber introduced the world to James O’Barr’s “The Crow” and Tim Vigil’s “Faust,” both of which became movies. Guy Davis and Vince Locke later became part of that small group of artists that began DC’s Vertigo imprint, a game-changing group of books. Caliber introduced Mike Allred’s “Madman,” Philip Hester, Stuart Immonen, Ed Brubaker, and many more. Quite a stable of talent!

I don’t write for children. That doesn’t mean “Worlds: Three Stories by Gary Scott Beatty” is obscene, it just means there are themes kids wouldn’t understand.

“Seductions” is a vampire love story. What it’s really about is the changing roles of women in dating rituals over the last 80 years. This is not your daughter’s sparkly, one woman vampire!

“Adam Among the Gods” is a science fiction adventure story. It’s really a look at genetic engineering. When society demands perfection, who decides what “perfect” is?

“Jazz: Cool Birth” is a murder mystery in a 1950’s jazz club. The art was inspired by ’50s album cover design. The language is beebop. The message is the tragic results of intolerance.

After my last comic, “Number One,” was named one of the best indie comics of 2014 by Bleeding Cool, I thought it the pinnacle of my publishing accomplishments. After, all, the book actually brought a reviewer to tears! But “Worlds: Three Stories by Gary Scott Beatty” has shown me these stories resonate with readers well beyond their release dates!
