The cover to Indie Comics Magazine #3 features a full color "Space Dragon" painting by Susan Van Camp.

"We're different than other books," Beatty explained. "We feature done-in-one stories so readers can get a feel for what these creators can do. Scott Frantz Samurai Tale in the New Indie Comics Magazine #3

With deft, spare brushstrokes and minimal words, Scott Frantz' samurai story Add-Uchi appears in Indie Comics Magazine #3, scheduled for preorder in Diamond Comic Distributors' August 2011 Previews catalog and available ONLY through Previews. Editor Gary Scott Beatty said he's excited to have Frantz contribute a tale with such quiet power.

"Scott is a real pro and it shows," said Beatty. "In both the art and the writing, what he leaves off the page is just as important as what he includes."

Frantz went from background artist on TV's Faust and Eo to Rebel Studios, where he was co-writer and co-penciller of Meccalapolis in Rebel's anthology Raw Media Mag #3 and creator of Darkstar, an intricate, star spanning space operatic.

In Darkstar, Yorginn, a ruling council member, betrayed two worlds by aligning his allegiance with alien invaders, with catastrophic results for his race. Frantz is now revisiting and reimagining Darkstar, with new designs and even a new name.

A practicing Zen Buddhist, Frantz meditates daily and is learning Japanese.

Each issue of Indie Comics Magazine features full stories from many independent comic book creators, said Beatty. Short biographies and contact information are included so readers can easily seek out more of the creators' work. Frantz's illustrations can be viewed at http://scottfrantz.deviantart.com.

LaPorte and Rachels' Clown Town in the New Indie Comics Magazine #3

Kevin LaPorte and Amanda Rachels' creepy Clown Town characters shuffle into Indie Comics Magazine #3, scheduled for preorder in Diamond Comic Distributors' August 2011 Previews catalog and available ONLY through Previews. Editor Gary Scott Beatty said he thinks the new creators are ones to watch.

"Kevin has a great sense of story and Amanda's fluid, elegant drawing style is a great contrast to the horror content," said Beatty. "Add to that gray tones from Amanda's sister Amy and skilled typography from Kevin and you have a carefully constructed package that's sure to impress."

Kevin and Amanda used one of their submissions to the now-defunct Zuda web comic competition to launch their 2010 web comic, The Blind Eye, now collected into their first self-published work.

Their Clown Town contribution to the 2010 Small Press Idol competition dominated the popular vote, falling to second place in the last round on the very last day!

The team has contributed stories to the literacy-focused Reading With Pictures Vol. 1, Grayhaven Comics’ The Gathering anthology and more.

Each issue of Indie Comics Magazine features full stories from many independent comic book creators, said Beatty. Short biographies and contact information are included so readers can easily seek out more of the creators' work. Faust Artist Tim Vigil to Return in Indie Comics Magazine #3

Nationally known illustrator Tim Vigil's character Dick William Vickers, private eye, will return in Indie Comics Magazine #3, scheduled for preorder in Diamond Comic Distributors' August 2011 Previews catalog and available ONLY through Previews. The done-in-one tale features an eight page story from Vigil's City of Lost Souls series, announced Indie Comics Magazine Editor Gary Scott Beatty.

Praised for his attention to detail in black and white art, anatomy, and extremely graphic art, Vigil is responsible for creating the DynaPop art style and was a key member of the Rebel Studios company. His graphic novel Faust (with David Quinn) was adapted by Brian Yuzna as the movie Faust: Love of the Damned. Faust: Book of M was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Best Illustrated Narrative.

Vickers is a film noir styled private eye in a horror story setting, said Beatty, who will appear in a series of books some time in the future. "We get a glimpse of him here, following leads in the Devil's Den area of Sacrament, New York." The tale is written by Vigil's nephew, Jeff Vigil.

Tim's art has appeared in books by Caliber Comics, Verotik (the comic book label of The Misfits leader Glenn Danzig) and in the Broken Halos Studios books Broken Halo and Gunfighters in Hell (featuring art by brother Joe Vigil).

Vigil's art books include Dark Utopia and Gothic Nights. For Avatar, Tim created the titles Webwitch and EO. Recent work includes Faust: Singha's Talons at Avatar Press and covers and interiors for the Fantastic Worlds of Frank Frazetta series.

Each issue of Indie Comics Magazine will feature full stories from many independent comic book creators, said Beatty. Short biographies and contact information are included so readers can easily seek out more of the creators' work. Tim accepts commissions through http://TimVigilArt.com.

Students of the Unusual's lovable bums return, as Pat Martin presents a story of eternal youth in Indie Comics Magazine #3, scheduled for preorder in Diamond Comic Distributors' August 2011 Previews catalog and available ONLY through Previews.

Martin joined forces with Terry Cronin, Jeff Hall and Bob Lizek to create 3 Boys Productions, responsible for the annual Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival. The team is now producing Adventure Chefs, a reality show where contestants hunt, forage and gather food to prepare fine dining for judges.

"It's fun how the crew at 3 Boys Productions combine Florida myths, legends and history with their expanding core characters from all walks of life," said Beatty. "Their filmmaking experience really shows through in the way they construct their stories."

Art in the Indie Comic Magazine tale is supplied by Jorge Calamato, an illustrator who has contributed much to the Students of the Unusual pantheon over the years.

Each issue of Indie Comics Magazine will feature full stories from many independent comic book creators, said Beatty. Paul Bradford's Astral Crusaders Patrol the New Indie Comics Magazine #3

Heresy shall not be tolerated as Paul Bradford presents an Astral Crusaders story in Indie Comics Magazine #3, scheduled for preorder in Diamond Comic Distributors' August 2011 Previews catalog and available ONLY through Previews. Editor Gary Scott Beatty said The Standard Bearer tale is the premiere of Bradford's creation.

"Readers will want to be in at the beginning for this one," said Beatty. "Paul has created a huge back story for this cosmic army, but offers us a complete story in these eight pages."

The Astral Crusaders are the last bastion of humanity, a well trained force defending and upholding the values of the human race throughout the cosmos. Humanity only remains on the colonized planets and moons throughout the known galaxy. Close encounters proved to be a little too close for comfort.

Originally from Scotland, Bradford was brought up on the British comics that helped twist him into the writer he is today. Now living in Western Australia, he writes comics containing a broad spectrum of themes and ideas. He also writes Gothic poetry under the pseudonym Hierophantom and has produced small press "zines" through his company Inertia Publications.

Each issue of Indie Comics Magazine features full stories from many independent comic book creators, said Beatty. Short biographies and contact information are included so readers can easily seek out more of the creators' work.
